A new, 6-star Green Star Communities dominion has been launched on the Sunshine Coast, and it promises to be the sustainable paradise of the future, with revolutionary water processes and Caloundra solar panels and systems. The subdivision development may have kicked off in Caloundra South in 2015, but the legacy is boldly flourishing.
The development, the newest city on the Coast, is named Aura, the City of Colour. It is nestled between the Glasshouse Mountains, Caloundra beaches, and Pumicestone Passage and will house around 50,000 people when it is completed over the next three decades. A landmark creation that may revolutionise urban design, Aura will provide residents with a number of impressive parks and public spaces. More importantly, it will set the pace for ecological living into the next century.
There will be more than 200km of cycleways, sport and recreational facilities, a public beach, and 700 ha of designated rehabilitation and conservation land. More than 2 million trees are expected to be planted in Aura. All of this is in addition to the industrial, innovation, and business hubs, 20+ schools and education centres, and a new health ward, that are anticipated to create tens of thousands of jobs.
The homes in Aura are an environmental-friendly marvel that will hopefully raise the bar for communities in the years to come. With Aura implementing Water Sensitive Urban Design, which integrates stormwater, groundwater, wastewater, and water supply, the homes all have rainwater harvesting tanks installed. These tanks will supply water externally but also connect to toilet cistern and washing machine cold taps, and are intended to capture and use over half of all the roof water. Streetscapes and landscapes will incorporate Rain Garden beds, which filter stormwater pollution to maintain the water quality of the surrounding creeks.
The City of Colour will not only serve as a water conservation miracle but will also show the world the phenomenal benefits of energy efficiency. The buildings in Aura have light-coloured roofing to reduce heat absorption, and peak smart-enabled air conditioners, as well as off-peak energy circuits that will connect to hot water systems and pool pumps, that is, unless solar hot water is installed instead.
The Sun Shines Brightly on the City of Colour
Undoubtedly, solar power will be a hallmark in the ecological wonder that is Aura, and Hush Energy is delighted to provide Aura solar panels and systems for its residential and commercial buildings. With environmental and quality standards so high in the City of Colour, it makes sense that the city will have only the highest calibre solar systems installed.
This will pretty much solidify the Sunshine Coast as one of the most successful solar energy capitals in the world. Aura is clearly joining the ranks of commercial and residential buildings that are making the switch to smart, sustainable, solar energy systems. For residents, the energy efficiencies will result in amazing savings on household energy bills.
The whole world will be watching the Aura solar panels and systems as an ecological barometer, to see how successful solar power can be. The equivalent of the population of Gladstone will be making Aura its home, and urban planners, conservationists, and renewable energy providers are hopeful that the world can follow suit to build more environmentally sustainable communities.
It may seem like a lot of pressure for a new development. But, if there is any place that could change the way the world thinks about environmental consciousness, it would be the city whose name reflects the idea that innovation and Nature can build off each other and thrive. The city of Aura is a statement that people should be co-custodians of historically and environmentally significant areas, and that protecting the treasures of Nature and living luxuriously are not mutually exclusive.
